Privacy Policy

At Couch22 we believe your privacy is central to our success. We treat your personal information with the highest standards of security and confidentiality. Below is a description of the types of information we receive and collect when you visit Couch22, and how we safeguard your personal information. Note that we never sell or rent your personal information to third parties.

These policies were last updated on June 5, 2009, and are effective as of that date.

If and when these policies change, we will always post the changes here, so please check back periodically.

What information do we collect?

When you register with Couch22, we collect the following information:
  • sex (your gender)
  • sex sought in a dating context (the gender you are seeking in a dating context)
  • your country of residence
  • your zip/postal code
  • your year of birth (year only)
  • email address
You may make changes to any of this information at any time by logging in to Couch22 and going to the 'My Account' page.

Like most internet websites, we collect data in website log files. When you visit Couch22, we collect the following technical information in these files:
  • your IP (internet protocol) address
  • the name of your operating system (such as Macintosh or Windows)
  • the name of the browser you used to visit our site (such as Internet Explorer or Firefox)
  • the time you visited our site
  • which pages you visited on our site
  • the address of the last URL visited prior to going to our site

What do we do with this information?

We use this information to make our website easier to use and to invent new features, based on aggregate information about our visitors. We also use this information to provide carefully-customized, limited third-party advertising on parts of our website. When we do this, we never disclose your individual identity or personally identifiable data without your permission. Unless you explicitly give us permission, no one will ever be able to identify you or contact you.

If you post a comment, reply to a Hot Topic thread, or post a new thread, we display the name of your country and, if in the U.S., the name of your state next to your comment or post. This is the only place we ever publicly display personal information about you on the website.

We may periodically send promotional emails about new features or other information on our website that we think you may find interesting using the email address that you have provided. In every promotional email, we always provide a URL to a web page where you can quickly unsubscribe from such emails.

We never sell, rent, or give any of your personal information to third parties, except as described above or unless ordered by a court of law.

Do you use cookies?

A cookie is a small file that asks permission to be placed on your computer's hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps you to be recognized on a particular website. Cookies allow a website to respond to you as an individual. The website can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.

A cookie in no way gives us access to your computer or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us. At Couch22 we use cookies to store information such as your personal preferences. This makes it possible for us to recognize you when you're logged in, and gives you the ability to do certain things, including contribute to forums and leave comments on articles.

Some of our third-party advertisers may use cookies or a technology called web beacons when they advertise on our site, which will also send these advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense program) information including your IP address, the browser you used to visit our site, and in some cases, whether you have Flash installed. This is generally used for geotargeting purposes (showing New York real estate ads to someone in New York, for example) or showing certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking product ads to someone who frequents cooking sites).

What are DoubleClick DART cookies?

We use a special kind of cookie called a DART cookie for ad serving through Google's DoubleClick. This places a cookie on your computer when you are browsing the web and visit a site using DoubleClick advertising (including some Google AdSense advertisements). This cookie is used to serve ads specific to you and your interests ("interest-based targeting"). These ads will be displayed based on your previous browsing history. (For example, if you have been viewing sites about visiting Las Vegas, you may see Las Vegas hotel advertisements when viewing a non-related site, such as on a site about hockey.) DART uses "non personally identifiable information". It does not track personal information about you, such as your name, email address, physical address, telephone number, social security numbers, bank account numbers or credit card numbers. You can opt-out of this ad serving on all sites that use this type of advertising by visiting http://www.doubleclick.com/privacy/dart_adserving.aspx.

Can I opt out of using cookies?

You can choose to disable or selectively turn off Couch22 cookies and/or third-party cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can decline cookies by modifying your browser settings or by managing preferences in programs such as Norton Internet Security. This may affect how you are able to interact with our website as well as other websites. This could include the inability to login to services or programs, such as logging into and contributing to forums.

Note that deleting cookies does not mean you have permanently opted out of any advertising program. Unless you have settings that disable cookies, the next time you visit a site running the advertisements, a new cookie will be added.

Is my information secure?

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorized access, we have put in place various electronic and organizational procedures to safeguard the information we collect online.

What about Hot Topics?

Anything you enter in a comment or Hot Topics (forum) post on our website becomes public information. Please use caution when deciding to disclose personal information in these public areas.

What about other sites you link to?

Couch22 contains links to other related websites. Once you have used these links to leave our website, please note that we cannot control and are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these other websites.

Who can I ask if I have more questions?

If you have further questions or concerns about our privacy policies, please don't hesitate to contact us through our Contact Us page.
